I was out and about with my camera the other day and took a few photos.
Here’s my first ever attempt at a stereo photo. (crosseyed stereo – how to view)

So apparently RTE only showed Glen Hansard’s bit of the speech for Best Original Song and didn’t bother showing Marketa Irglova’s wonderful emotional return to the stage. Of course, as Rick points out, RTE only buy in these packages pre edited anyway, so it’s outside of their control. But I have a bee in my bonnet with RTE ever since I was a 14 year old Queen fan watching the Freddie Mercury Tribute Concert and RTE decided to cut off the last half hour of it to show a Dallas rerun. So there.
Anyway, how long does it take to check that the version they got had got the whole thing, and stick Marketa’s bit in themselves if they needed to? Maybe when they get the tv rights for Once, in 2013, they can just cut her bits out of the movie too.
And before anybody says Marketa Irglova’s not Irish, just listen to her speak. She’s Dublinese alright!

It’s true.
Will we ever hear the end of it?
Seriously though, great song, great movie. Well done Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova!
Here’s their performance of the winning song at the Oscars…
and here’s them winning and the acceptance speech(es)
They cut off Marketa during her speech so they allowed her back out to make a speech after the ad break.

Yeah it took me a few days of messing around trying to disect the internet so that I could watch the Meteors but I finally did it. I’ m not sure whose copyright I violated, maybe it was Duke Special’s, maybe it was Aslan’s, maybe I violated Charlize Theron in a copyright type of way, I dunno. I’m not sure why the Meteor’s were ‘geoblocked to the 32 counties’ but I unblocked your geo, RTE, and I unblocked it good.
I enjoyed the show in the end and if you, like me, are a geoblocked Irish music fan then stick the following in your real player and enjoy!

Last night I wrote the best blog post ever written.
It was so good that Damien Mulley dedicated an entire post of fluffy links to it, a whole page of links all linking to my post. He then retired the ‘fluffy’ tag, never again to be used.
So hilariously satirical that Twenty Major fell to his knees and swore he could never blog again.
John Waters dedicated a whole month to writing columns denouncing it.
The Irish Independent copied and pasted it over an entire issue of the newspaper. It sold millions.
So interesting that Rick O Shea dedicated an entire show to just discussing it, and had to promise to get back to it another day, such was the feedback.
So utterly fascinating that Roy told no other stories to his taxi clientelle that night but mine.
The Chancer spent 3 weeks opining and inquiring about it, then gave up.
So life changing it made Grandad throw his pipe out and shave off his beard.
So inspiring it made Bock drive to Dublin and give Bertie a huge hug.
The blog post ended with some beats.
Unmistakeable beats.
De – de – dedededededededede – de – de – de – de
A synthesiser fades in…
The magical tones of the best single ever released, New Order’s Blue Monday.
Blue Monday, which also happens to be the alarm on my phone every morning.
Bollocks.

The question has been asked, is Giovanni Trappatoni the new Jack Charlton?
The answer is here in this short video I made.
He’s crazy enough anyway.

Commiserations to Rick, whoever thought of the idea to trust the Irish voting public in selecting the best dj category. They’ve voted this idiot as best dj. Don’t know quality when they hear it.
Congratulations to the other winners though. Duke Special, Cathey Davey, Aslan, The Blizzards, and of course the group who will still be winning best Irish Pop Act in 2028, Westlife.
Lifetime achievement award went to The Saw Doctors. The first single I ever bought was I Useta Lover, and I haven’t looked back since. To celebrate, here’s the band themselves doing the fantastic Hay Wrap!

I’m a part time grammar nazi.
One thing that really pisses me off is the use of the singular when speaking of a group or a team.
U2 is playing in Dublin tonight. WRONG
U2 are playing in Dublin tonight.
Arsenal is playing Man United. WRONG
Arsenal are playing Man United.
Okay well maybe it’s not technically wrong but it just doesn’t sound right to me!
